What is Ambien used for?
A hypnotic, or sedative, is what Ambien is. Ambien (zolpidem) modifies brain chemistry that may be out of balance in those who struggle with insomnia.

Insomnia is treated with ambien. When you first go to bed, the immediate-release tablet is used to aid in falling asleep. The extended-release version, Ambien CR, contains two layers: one that dissolves quickly to promote sleep and helps you stay asleep, and the other that dissolves more slowly.

Whichever form of Ambien is best for you will be determined by your doctor.

Warnings

A serious allergic reaction could be brought on by Ambien. If you experience any of the following symptoms of an allergic reactionโ€”hives, trouble breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throatโ€”stop taking this medication and get emergency medical attention.

Even if someone else has the same symptoms as you, never share Ambien with them. Men and women should take zolpidem at different dosages, and youngsters are not permitted to use this medication. When this medicine is misused, potentially harmful side effects may occur.

Ambien may cause you to behave or think differently. After taking this medication, especially if you take the extended-release pill or are a woman, you could still feel tired in the morning. Before doing anything that calls for you to be awake and aware, wait at least four hours or until you are completely awake.

Never take Ambien for longer than is recommended or in greater doses.

If you have had alcohol during the day or right before bed, avoid taking zolpidem.

Prior to using this medication

Some Ambien users have driven, eaten, walked, talked on the phone, or had sex, for example, and then later cannot recall what they did. If this occurs to you, cease taking this medication and discuss alternative sleep aid options with your physician.

If you have a zolpidem allergy, you shouldn't use Ambien. There could be lactose in the pills. If you are lactose intolerant, proceed with caution.

It is not authorized for anyone under the age of 18 to use Ambien.
Tell your doctor about any of the following to ensure that using this medication is safe for you:

mental disease, depression, or thoughts of suicide;

How should Ambien be taken?

Adhere to your doctor's prescription for Ambien strictly. Observe the instructions on the label of your medication. Never take this medication for longer than is recommended or in greater doses.

Men and women should take zolpidem at different dosages, and youngsters are not permitted to use this medication.

Go over all of the instructions, prescription guidelines, and patient information that you have been given. If you have any questions, speak with your physician or pharmacist.

Zolpidem could lead to habit formation. Abuse can result in overdose, addiction, or even death. It is illegal to sell or give away this medication.

Even if someone else has the same symptoms as you, do not share this drug with them. Ambien is not approved for use in youngsters, and different dosages are advised for men and women. When this medicine is misused, potentially harmful side effects may occur.

If you do not have a complete 7 to 8 hours of sleep before returning to activity, do not take this medication.

Ambien should only be used occasionally. Inform your physician if, after taking this drug for seven to ten nights in a row, your symptoms of insomnia do not get better or if they worsen. Without consulting your doctor, do not use this medication for more than four or five weeks at a time.

After using Ambien for a long time, don't stop using it abruptly to avoid unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. To prevent withdrawal symptoms after you stop taking the medication, ask your doctor.

After you stop using Ambien, your insomnia symptoms could come back and even worse. If, during the first few nights after stopping this medication, your insomnia gets worse, don't hesitate to contact your doctor.
