Lortab is a prescription medication that combines two active ingredients: hydrocodone, an opioid analgesic, and acetaminophen (paracetamol), a non-opioid pain reliever and fever reducer. This combination is used to relieve moderate to severe pain. Hydrocodone works by altering the way the brain and nervous system respond to pain, while acetaminophen enhances the pain-relieving effects of hydrocodone and can reduce fever.

Lortab is typically prescribed in doses ranging from 2.5 mg to 10 mg of hydrocodone, combined with 300 mg to 325 mg of acetaminophen, per tablet. The usual adult dosage is one tablet every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain relief. The total daily dose should not exceed 60 mg of hydrocodone or 4 grams of acetaminophen.
