About

Lortab is a prescription medication commonly used for the relief of moderate to moderately severe pain. It is a combination drug that includes hydrocodone, an opioid analgesic, and acetaminophen, a non-opioid pain reliever and fever reducer. By combining these two agents, Lortab takes advantage of the complementary mechanisms of action to provide effective pain management.

Lortab is available in various strengths, typically in tablet form, with different ratios of hydrocodone to acetaminophen (e.g., 5 mg/325 mg, 7.5 mg/325 mg, and 10 mg/325 mg). The dosage must be individualized based on the patient’s pain severity, response to therapy, and previous analgesic treatment experience.

For adults, the usual dosage is one tablet every 4 to 6 hours as needed for pain relief. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 6 tablets of the highest strength, primarily due to the risk of acetaminophen toxicity.
