About

Lorazepam, a medication belonging to the benzodiazepine class, is widely used in clinical practice for its anxiolytic, sedative, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant properties. First introduced in the 1970s, Lorazepam has since become a mainstay in the management of various conditions such as anxiety disorders, insomnia, and seizures.

Lorazepam is available in various forms, including oral tablets, oral solution, and injectable formulations. The dosage of Lorazepam must be individualized based on the patient's condition, age, and response to therapy. Typical oral dosages range from 0.5 mg to 2 mg, taken two to three times daily for anxiety. For insomnia, a single dose of 2 to 4 mg at bedtime is common. In the case of status epilepticus, intravenous Lorazepam is administered at a dose of 4 mg, repeated if necessary.
