About

Anxiety is a normal response to stress, but when it becomes excessive or disproportionate to the situation, it can interfere with daily activities and well-being. According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders affect 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.

One of the most commonly prescribed medications for anxiety is Xanax (alprazolam), a benzodiazepine that works by enhancing the effects of a neurotransmitter called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. Xanax can help reduce symptoms of anxiety, such as panic attacks, fear, and worry.
