Ativan (generic name lorazepam) is a medication used to treat anxiety disorders and insomnia. It is a type of benzodiazepine, which works by enhancing the effects of a neurotransmitter in the brain called GABA, resulting in a calming effect. Ativan can also be used to treat seizures, alcohol withdrawal, and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. They are available in two variants Ativan 1mg and Ativan 2mg.
