Hydrocodone is an opioid that is used to alleviate pain and reduce coughing. It’s usually prescribed with acetaminophen/hydrocodone or ibuprofen/hydrocodone for pain severe enough to necessitate an opioid and with homatropine methyl bromide for cough relief.
Hydrocodone and acetaminophen are used together to alleviate the pain that is severe enough to warrant opioid treatment. Other pain relievers may not be practical or tolerated.
