Dr. Sompop Bencharit is a distinguished scholar with expertise in the fields of protein structural biology, prosthodontics, implantology, and digital dentistry. He is currently Professor, Associate Dean for Innovation, and Chief Innovation Officer at Workman School of Dental Medicine, High Point University. He recently hold a position of Professor and Assistant Dean for Innovation at the College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), where he also served as the Founding Chair of the Department of Reconstructive and Rehabilitation Sciences. Dr. Bencharit's previous roles include serving as the Founding Director of Digital Dentistry Technologies and Director of Clinical Research at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Dr. Bencharit's academic journey commenced at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, where he earned his DDS and Diploma in Prosthodontics. Seeking further academic excellence, he pursued advanced studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), where he attained a Certificate and Master's Degree in Prosthodontics, a PhD in Oral Biology, and a Certificate in Clinical Research. His accomplishments are recognized by his Diplomate status with the American Board of Prosthodontics, as well as fellowship memberships in esteemed organizations such as the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the International College of Dentists.

Dr. Bencharit's pioneering contributions to research have earned him the prestigious 2021 ACP Distinguished Researcher award. His scholarly endeavors are reflected in a prolific publication record, comprising over 90 peer-reviewed articles and more than 100 published abstracts. Emphasizing the significance of academic dissemination, he actively engages in editorial responsibilities, holding positions such as Associate Editor for the Journal of Prosthodontics, Academic Editor for PLoS ONE, Scientific Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports, Co-Chair for the American Academy of Implant Prosthodontics Implant Monograph, and Editorial Contributor for the ADA/Elsevier PracticeUpdate Clinical Dentistry. Dr. Bencharit also contributes extensively to research groups and committees, serving as Director for the International Association for Dental Research/American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (IADR/AADOCR)-Prosthodontic Research Group, alongside his roles as a Research Committee Member for the ACP and the American Academy of Osseointegration (AO).
