An Illinois native, Dr. Escher grew up in Dallas, Texas. At the University of North Texas, he earned a B.A. in Philosophy with a second major in History. He received his medical degree at Kansas City University of Medicine & Biosciences. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan and a fellowship in Pain Management at USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. He holds continuous certification in anesthesiology and subspecialty certification in pain management.

Dr. Escher is a recipient of the AMA Foundation Leadership Award for, "outstanding leadership in medicine and community affairs." He currently serves as Secretary-Treasurer on the Board of Governors for the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists. He is a Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Anesthesiologists, the Federation of State Medical Boards, and the American Association of Osteopathic Examiners.

Dr. Escher served on the Board of Osteopathic Medicine under Florida Governors Crist and Scott.
He has lectured nationally and internationally on pain management, anesthesiology, maintenance of licensure, and board certification. In multiple media appearances, he remains a strong advocate for public health and safety. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncologic Sciences at USF Health and serves as a member of the Ethics Committee at Moffitt.
His clinical interests are oncology, the use of ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia, pain management, and public health. His research interests are oncology and anesthesiology, public health and safety, medical ethics, and the preservation of medical history.
