Abstract
This patient was suffering from radiating pain and irritation of the trigeminal nerve caused by nerve impingement by an aberrant extra numerary tooth seated in the mandible on the inferior alveolar nerve. Whether the otorrhea was an effect of this impingement or had an undiagnosed etiology is difficult to discern. Steroids provided moderate relief due to their anti-inflammatory action. Gabapentin or pregabalin may have provided some relief but was not tried. Conclusively, definitive treatment with surgical extraction relieved her symptoms. This case provides an example of how using a multidisciplinary approach to patient care can assist in the management of refractory cases.
