Abstract
Suicide is a global health epidemic that has shown an increasing trend in almost all parts of the world. The suicide rate in the United States has consistently increased since 1999. Mental disorders act as a precipitating factor in causing a suicidal crisis in the majority of cases. Epidemiological studies have shown a strong association between virtually all mental disorders and suicidality. Epigenetic studies have demonstrated significant advancement in establishing an association between a mental disorder and suicidal behavior. Recently, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown a major impact on an individual’s mental health especially to those with underlying psychiatric disorders.
