Dr. Sajjad Ali is an accomplished pulmonologist and medical educator with a distinguished career in clinical care, academic leadership, and institutional development. Currently serving as **Associate Professor of Pulmonology**, **Head of the Pulmonology Department**, **Incharge Medical ICU**, **Associate Dean (PGME)**, and **Hospital Director (MTI Mardan)**, he has played a central role in strengthening both service delivery and postgraduate training across the institution.
His clinical leadership has resulted in the establishment of key state-of-the-art services, including a **10-bed fully equipped Medical ICU**, major upgrades in the Pulmonology Unit, and the development of a comprehensive **PMDT (Programmatic Management of Drug-Resistant TB) Unit**, one of only five such centers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Under his supervision, the department has expanded procedural capability, initiated plans for medical thoracoscopy and sleep study facilities, and ensured high-quality patient care in a 34-bed pulmonology ward.
As Associate Dean of PGME, he oversees the training of more than **440 postgraduate trainees** across MTI Mardan and has contributed substantially to developing transparent selection processes, evaluation standards, OSCE/OSPE assessments, disciplinary guidelines, and rotation policies. He regularly organizes workshops for the biennial international chest conference and promotes academic culture through structured activities such as “Staff of the Month” and “Doctor of the Month.”
Dr. Sajjad’s research interests span **bronchial asthma, COPD, ILD, pneumonia, pleural diseases, and tuberculosis**, with particular focus on **drug-resistant TB outcomes** and **quality of life in asthma**. He has ongoing projects evaluating predictors of mortality in MDR-TB based on a dedicated dataset, and he continues to mentor trainees in thesis development, protocol writing, and research methodology. His commitment to evidence-based medicine is reflected in his development of novel clinical tools such as **“Sajjad’s Scale”** for advising asthmatic patients on fasting.
