Dr. Ciara Harraher graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a Bachelor
of Science in Neuroscience. She received her medical degree from McMaster University School
of Medicine. She conducted her residency at Dalhouise University and she also earned a Masters
of Public Health from Harvard University. Upon completing her neurosurgical residency, Dr.
Harraher completed fellowship training in vascular neurosurgery and radiosurgery at Stanford
University. Dr. Harraher has authored several scientific articles and has won research awards
including the best resident paper at New England Neurosurgical Society Meeting in 2008 and
the Dalhousie Department of Medicine Research Day in 2009.
Currently Dr. Harraher is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School
of Medicine and Medical Director of Neurosurgery at Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz,
California. She is involved in several research trials investigating the genetics of aneurysms,
the role of surgery in intracranial hemorrhage and surgical outcomes in spine. Dr. Harraher
is a member of the Western Neurosurgical Society, the American Association of Neurological
Surgeons, and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of
Surgeons of Canada in Neurosurgery.
